I have served on OneShoreline’s Board since its founding in 2020, first as Vice Chair and now as Chair. We have worked to protect homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure from flooding and sea level rise along our Coastside, Bayside, and local creeks.
Working with our federal legislators, we advanced funding requests for a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study to develop long-term flood protections for the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM) wastewater treatment plant.
In late June 2026, the Army Corps made a positive federal interest determination, an important step toward a federal feasibility study.
Protecting our Coastside means planning ahead, securing outside resources, and working together to address challenges no small community can tackle alone.

In January 2026, $50,000 in federal funding was appropriated for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to begin evaluating flood protection for the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside wastewater treatment plant.
The Corps began its federal-interest evaluation in May and confirmed a positive federal interest in late June 2026.
On October 14, the SAM Board heard a presentation from OneShoreline and expressed unanimous support for OneShoreline to execute the feasibility cost-sharing agreement.
The OneShoreline Board’s October 26 agenda included authorization for its CEO to execute that agreement, with OneShoreline serving as the project’s non-federal sponsor.
A proposed initial $400,000 federal appropriation for FY2027 remains subject to the federal budget process. Additional funding and agreements will be necessary before the next phase of the feasibility study can proceed.
San Mateo County’s October 20 emergency declaration was made for preparedness and planning purposes ahead of this winter’s El Niño. For active warnings, evacuation notices, and emergency instructions, follow the official agencies below.
